AIRFAST Indonesia introduced a Flight Operations Quality Assurance (FOQA) program in 2014. This program is intended to enable the Company to identify, quantify, assess, and address operational risks, especially the operations of the flight. The FOQA is in line with the provisions of the Civil Aviation Safety Regulation (CASR) Part 19 and covers the Company's MD80 fleet.
Basically, flight data from a Flight Data Acquisition Unit (FDAU) is downloaded via the Quick Access Recorder (QAR) on a daily basis and the data is uploaded and processed through “Cassiopee” a web portal which then computes and identifies any deviation from preset flight parameters. The aggregate data and trends are then fed backed to the flight crew training section as well as being used to improve aircraft performance and maintenance practices and also operational decision making.
FOQA enables a predictive tool in a Safety Management System by identifying any flight parameter deviations which should be corrected before contributing to a fatal accident.
