AIRFAST Indonesia fitted and activated the Automated Flight Information Reporting System (AFIRS).

The AFIRS 228 system installed into the MD80 fleets. This onboard system enables satellite voice communication, satellite flight tracking, real time block time and flight time, real time engine, airframe exceedance reporting, and real time flight operations safety alerts.

As with the FOQA, the data benefits flight crew training, is used to improve aircraft maintenance practices and aid the operational decision making as a proactive tool in the Safety Management System.
